June 2026
Monthly archive collection on The Daily Hue.
June was probably the hardest month of The Daily Hue so far. After graduating and moving into the strange period that comes after college, I spent much of the month traveling throughout Asia on a post-grad trip. It was supposed to be a chance to slow down and enjoy having finished school, but The Daily Hue came with me everywhere. I worked on it every day of what was supposed to be my vacation, and at times it felt like the project was taking over everything else. June was when I started to understand the real cost of running The Daily Hue. There were the obvious monetary costs of keeping a website running, but there were also the less obvious ones: time, attention, energy, and the things I was giving up to keep the project moving. I sometimes wonder if I worked too hard on it and whether I missed other experiences or opportunities because I was so focused on making it work. Those are questions I still don't have perfect answers to. The artwork this month reflects some of that tension. There are bright and beautiful works like Yayoi Kusama's *Violet Obsession*, Tiffany's *Dogwood*, and John William Hill's *Peach Blossoms*, but there are also stranger, quieter, and more complicated pieces. Vincent van Gogh's *Shoes* feels particularly fitting: an ordinary object made meaningful through the attention given to it. David Hockney's *Portrait of an Artist (Pool with Two Figures)* and Roger Brown's *D-Yard Attica* bring very different perspectives on people and places. Somewhere in the middle of all this, I learned how to make The Daily Hue a little more manageable. I built processes, shortcuts, and workflows that made curating artwork and preparing the daily games less overwhelming. They did not solve everything, but they helped.
