About this puzzle
Made in China during the Jiajing period of the Ming dynasty, this porcelain jar was produced at the Jingdezhen kilns, one of the most important centers of Chinese ceramics. The period, which lasted from 1522 to 1566, was known for its striking blue-and-white porcelain, with cobalt blue applied beneath a clear glaze.
The jar is covered with lively scenes of scholars, buildings, trees, and clouds, arranged within decorative panels around its rounded body. The deep blue designs stand out against the white porcelain, giving the piece a strong graphic quality even from a distance. The imagery appears to tell a larger story about the life of a scholar-official, moving between peaceful garden settings and scenes of daily activity.
