Jan Gossaert, also known as Mabuse, was one of the first artists to bring ideas from the Italian Renaissance to Northern Europe. He became known for his incredibly detailed paintings, combining realistic faces, rich fabrics, and ornate architecture with religious subjects. His work helped bridge two artistic traditions, blending the precision of Flemish painting with the balance and grandeur of Italian art.
The Madonna and Child was one of the most popular subjects of the Renaissance, and Gossaert's version is full of thoughtful details.
