Vincent van Gogh

Hue Plus collection on The Daily Hue.

Vincent van Gogh is one of the most influential artists in the history of Western art. Though he sold very few paintings during his lifetime and struggled with poverty and mental illness, his bold use of color, expressive brushwork, and emotional depth transformed the course of modern art. Today, works such as The Starry Night, Sunflowers, and Irises are celebrated around the world, securing his place as a pivotal figure in the development of Post-Impressionism. Over the course of his career, Van Gogh produced more than 2,000 artworks, including around 860 oil paintings, many of them completed during the final two years of his life. His work drew inspiration from the people and landscapes around him, as well as Japanese woodblock prints and the emerging Impressionist movement. More than a century after his death, his paintings continue to captivate millions of people each year, making him one of the most recognized and beloved artists in history.
